Hello & Welcome Friends!
I am so happy you are here.
Today, I want to talk to you about how I communicate with my New Mommies about their Newborn Sessions.
If you are expecting and looking for the right Newborn Photographer for you, I'd love to chat more. Fill our contact form and I'll give you a call later on today.
When to Book?
We know that a baby's birth day can be unpredictable and so, It's best to contact us during your second trimester so we can pencil you in. It's great if you can add us to the "when baby is born" list of people to notify, too!
That way we will have a better idea of when you'll need to book. I want you to have a smooth start to your mommy-hood journey.
How old should your baby be for the session?
Newborn sessions are most successful when done within the first 7-10 days of birth.
Most of the poses will be done while baby is sleeping and we will be posing them in those cute curled up newborn positions and we want to make sure they're sleepy enough for us to handle them.
After the first 10 days of life they become a bit more alert and discover the joy of stretching!
They're less likely to be sleeping deeply enough to be scrunched into those cute posing positions.
However, I want to make sure you understand, you feeling well it's far more important.
If you have a C-Section, we can wait a little longer. I will still be able to get very cute images of your cutie all the way to 20 days!
The Day Of your Newborn Session?
LOOSEN the DIAPER
About 30 minutes before your session, please loosen baby's diaper and any clothing with waist bands that could leave those little imprint marks. Loosening them before gives them time to disappear.
HUNGRY BABY?
A well fed baby is a happy baby. Please feed and burp baby right before our session. This will ensure a nice sleepy "milk drunk" babe. I am also happy to take as many breaks as baby needs if he or she gets hungry during our shoot. It's tough work being new in the world!
DRY SKIN, BABE?
Many newborns will have flaky skin during those first few weeks of life which is totally normal! We suggest bringing some lotion with you to put on baby right before the shoot but I do not want you to worry about a thing. Photoshop has a way of taking care of those little things.
Please do remember that a sleepy is a happy baby!
If you want adorable, sleepy newborn photos where the baby is all curled up in those cute poses, it's best if baby is in his or her deepest sleep. if possible, keep baby awake 30 mins prior to their session so when you arrive to my studio/or I arrive to your home, they can be rocked or fed to sleep.
Also, remember, we are not in a hurry. Newborn sessions can last up to three hours.
We keep the studio a balmy 80 degrees so that your baby can feel comfortable in little to no clothing. We will have a sound machine going and request you keep distractions/noise to a minimum during the session.
Silence phones and only bring family members/people who will be in the shoot with you.
Space is limited and we need a still, quiet environment for a successful shoot.
Now, last but not least, the biggest decision when it comes to your Newborn Photo Session.
LIFESTYLE or POSED?
Lifestyle Session in your home: A lot of my clients decide to take a more candid approach to their baby's first photo session. These shoots take place in your home. I arrive 30 mins before the actual session time so we can set up and find the best light and areas to shoot.
Studio Session: You come to us. I provide al the props and setups.
Which is best?
This really is personal preference. If you choose a lifestyle session there's a list of do's and don't's I will provide you with that can help you prepare.
I don't expect your home to be perfect so don't stress about a thing.
I am known for my ability to make magic happen.
The most important part of all this ordeal is for you to remember to relax.
Bringing a new baby into the world is tiring and can be very stressful.
I am very experienced handling and posing newborns.
Your baby is in safe hands!
